The Malaria Laboratory at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia has been selected as the host venue for the International Conference on Plasmodium vivax Research (ICPvR) 2027, one of the most prestigious global events dedicated to P. vivax research. Held every two years, this conference gathers over 200 leading experts from around the world. The last time it took place in South America was in 2017 in Manaus, Brazil.

This event will bring together renowned international experts to discuss the latest breakthroughs in P. vivax research, spanning basic cell and molecular biology, field epidemiology, vector studies, and clinical research. In addition, the conference will tackle key challenges in the elimination of P. vivax, such as hypnozoite persistence, relapses, and drug resistance, with the goal of identifying knowledge gaps and fostering multidisciplinary collaborations to accelerate progress toward elimination.

This achievement is the result of years of dedicated efforts by the Malaria Laboratory to secure the organization of this congress. On February 14, 2025, during the 9th edition of ICPvR in Puducherry, India, it was officially announced that Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia will host ICPvR 2027. Representing our institution, Dr. Katherine Torres, a member of the Malaria Laboratory, received the ceremonial baton from the organizing committee and delivered the first welcoming remarks for the upcoming conference.

The challenge ahead is immense, but our university has a strong track record in hosting international scientific events. With the support of our academic community and institutional leadership, this conference will not only enhance global scientific collaboration but also solidify Cayetano Heredia’s position as a world leader in malaria research.

Stay tuned for more updates!
