In a report in the newspaper La República, our rector, Dr. Enrique Castañeda and other health specialists proposed that only those graduates who passed the National Medical Examination (ENAM) should be qualified as physicians.

Likewise, directors of the National Academy of Medicine regretted that in 2021, Indecopi declared this requirement a “bureaucratic barrier” to acquiring a license and gaining access to professional practice.

“We call on the Medical Association to file an appeal for annulment before the Judiciary against the decision of Indecopi so that the registration in the Medical Association is not accepted if the ENAM is not approved,” the National Academy of Medicine said.

On the other hand, Dr. Enrique Castañeda considered it essential to resume the licensing of medical faculties, which was canceled after the university’s counter-reform law was approved.Dr. Óscar Ugarte, former Minister of Health, supported this idea,  saying: «Universities that do not meet the requirements cannot function, and it will be a requirement to raise the quality of all faculties, both public and private.»
