Our university, always committed to developing innovative proposals in favor of the community, held on Thursday, April 25, the awarding of the Research Support Fund (FAI) 2024 winners of the Faculties of Medicine, Stomatology, and Nursing.

The FAI is in charge of the Integrated Unit of Research, Science, and Technology Management (UIGICT, by its acronym in Spanish) and is aimed at faculty and students of the Faculties of Medicine, Stomatology, and Nursing.

It seeks to promote the execution of research projects in each faculty, as well as integrated projects, in the following categories: Faculty (hired or regular professors participate), Students/Faculty (undergraduate and graduate students, with the advice of hired or regular professors) and Special (hired or regular professors with a workload of 1 or more hours per week, which may include the participation of students. For this year, the categories were: Health Education and Medical Technology).

Our Rector, Dr. Enrique Castañeda Saldaña; the Vice-Rector for Research, Dr. Carlos Cáceres Palacios; the Dean of the Faculties of Medicine, Stomatology and Nursing, Dr. Pedro Saona Ugarte; as well as the Vice Deans of these faculties and family members of the winners attended this ceremony.

«I feel very honored to be here. This ceremony is important because we are not only planting a seed of research but also generating a line that can later generate an analytical capacity to plan solutions to the problems that arise in society. Because the most important thing about research is the generation of knowledge and that this knowledge is useful for society», said Dr. Enrique Castañeda Saldaña.

Dr. Pedro Saona said: «It is an honor for me to address these words to you and to celebrate this strategy that allows us to grant funds to the research of our professors and students. We believe that this will continue, not only in Medicine, Stomatology, and Nursing but also in other university faculties. In this way, we will maintain this well-earned prestige. Once again, my congratulations to all the winners».

In another part of the ceremony, Dr. Wendy Sotelo Díaz, a member of the winning team of the 2023 fund, presented her work «Thoracentesis simulator: Development, fabrication, and validation of a low-cost thoracentesis simulator with 3D printing». He also thanked on behalf of his team for the support he received from our university.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners! Your dedication and excellence in research are inspiring examples for our entire hereditary community. We appreciate your commitment to innovation in the field of health and your contribution to the advancement of knowledge for the benefit of society. To review the gallery of this ceremony, click here.
